Confessions of a Summer Fling
By: Shaden

Her summer flings grow into what feels like the greatest love of her life, it could be the intense summer heat getting to her brains, triggering all the right chemicals and pushing the right buttons. Or maybe it’s because summer is so short and sweet, or maybe its just plain true love that she is very unaware of its existence. But there is something about the summer fling that makes it so unique, so much desired and highly remembered- and that’s the way she likes it.
Her idea of a summer romance is meant to be fleeting pleasures, and she’d rather keep it at that. To her, vacation romances can burn red-hot, ignited by short-lived intensity, excitement, parties and exotic settings. She finds it ideal when she is away from the hustle and bustle of the real life with its nasty distractions like homework or a job.
She loves the idea that summer flings are kept simple and light, just like the weather. She doesn’t want to get attached that’s why she prefers them if they came from another continent, she doesn’t believe in long distance with all its agony and pain. She doesn’t have time for a real boyfriend, yet she can sacrifice dinner for a long walk by the beach under the moonlight, it makes her tingle.
She knows it can cause heartache or can cause her unwanted issues that can be added to her personal resume, yet her perfect summer fling is kept casual, no promises of a future yet she remains exclusive to her beloved. They have fun together, and for the most part she keeps her feelings shallow with an air of care, yet with a lack of attachment. Unfortunately the bad side to it is that this can only be narrowed down as a bit of a fairytale romance, an urban myth that comes once a year with the cool breeze and summer waves.
She firmly believes that her summer romances as steeped in magic as it seemed, changed everything about the way she wants relationships to be. Being away on the beach made her capable of breaking free of the personality she had adopted in her day to day life back in the city. No longer did she have to act in a certain way, she could be anything she wanted to be, as long as the sun was shining and she was tanned.
As august comes to an end, and summer is slowly fading away, she then acknowledges that her summer fling shall too come to an end. She finds herself unsure of her feelings and before she knows it she has herself a semi-serious relationship that she desperately tries to mask as the perfect summer fling all her friends are jealous of. Upon her realization, she suddenly feels the only option is to spend as much time with her fling as possible, before all she has left is a good tan, a necklace he had given her, pictures and a broken heart.
