New Yorker Gordon Bishop was a lifelong poet, artist, journalist, and political activist. Among many remarkable achievements, he was instrumental in the toppling of Indonesian dictator Suharto. His wife Raden Ayu Nanies Soeryodiprodjo was killed and he was horribly injured in a car/bus collision fourteen years ago, after which he developed several rare cancers, losing first his eye, then his breast, his leg, and finally, on July 21, 2007, his life. He made these recordings for Demos three weeks before he died. |
