Just to be dialectic, may I suggest a different take on the pimping fellow in the basement described in anouk’s posting. An elderly German neighbor of mine—intellectual , very proper, always lived alone—is a fine pianist. She once told me that it gave her great pleasure to roam the classical repertoire at home with her instrument because it allowed her to explore so many moods and personalities—threatening, flaunting, aching, romancing, &c—which she felt constrained to express in her everyday life.

Isn’t it better that this pimping guy tries out his role playing in the abstract rather than in real life? You do have a point though about the crowd behavior.
